Local heritage building contractor, Jewell Construction Limited, is spearheading the effort to restore the neglected Gardeners’ House in Morrab Gardens.
As part of the refurbishment project, MSB Group have assisted Jewell Construction with a full mechanical and electrical package, including Kensa Ground Source Heat Pumps.
Beyond mere refurbishment, the project aims to honour West Cornwall’s natural environment and document its horticultural and botanical legacy.
Upon completion, the renovated house will serve as a vital community centre, offering workshops, green initiatives, and a sensory garden for the locals’ well-being.
Project coordinator, Miki Ashton, is thrilled to have Jewell on board, praising their expertise in heritage restoration.
Despite challenges such as limited access and preserving existing structures, the project marks a significant milestone for Penzance’s Town Deal program, according to Martin Tucker, chairman of the Penzance Town Deal Board.
Co-owner of Jewell Construction, Steve Jewell, is eager to contribute to the restoration of such a historically significant building.
Funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Penzance Town Deal fund, the project will also house a ‘living archive’ documenting West Cornwall’s natural heritage.
With support from the Tanner Phoenix Trust, the project underscores a commitment to environmental conservation and community well-being through art projects and local partnerships.
