MSB was commissioned by Neath Port Talbot Hospital, situated in the heart of Port Talbot, South Wales, to deliver a temporary boiler solution whilst the Trust evaluated long-term upgrade pathways for its ageing primary plant.

Our engineers developed a fully coordinated mechanical, electrical, and controls design to support the deployment of 4 × 280 kW Ideal IMAX commercial boilers, ensuring full interoperability with the hospital’s existing Building Management System (BMS) and primary heating circuit. This included integration of duty/assist/standby sequencing, hydraulic interface detail, electrical distribution, and networked control architecture to maintain resilience and operational visibility for estates teams.

The system has been successfully commissioned and is now providing robust standby capacity, demonstrating full capability to take the hospital’s entire heat load independently — including during peak seasonal demand across critical healthcare areas.

Owing to the successful delivery, system performance, and positive client feedback, MSB is now earmarked to support the next phase, which is expected to include the comprehensive upgrade of the permanent boiler plant serving Neath Port Talbot Hospital and the wider local healthcare estate.
